I'm still in the process of unpacking my boxes of books into my room. But I got a lot done this weekend. I finally found a frame to fit my diploma (thanks GA State, for having a godawful weird size) and the matte board hides the 1" of space leftover in the frame. Both of them are hanging in my room. $10 each at Michael's. I also found another frame for a pretty painting I got at last year's renn fest.

I'm car shopping.

I put more furniture in my closet so that I can store things in there, rather than stack boxes piled high.

Ross had cute shirts that look "work appropriate." Even though there's no real dress code, I'm trying to be professional-ish. The lab is also taking over duties of manning a table during "Archaeology Day" at Fernbank. We're gonna try and wrangle children and keep their attention.

Saturday, I went with my family to the matinee of Spamalot. It was my christmas present to them. And it was awesome. I loved it! So great, I spent a frivilous amount of money on merchandise.

Today, I went shopping with Shelly and then we had a "hemming party" and each hemmed 4 pants. I now have 4 more pairs of pants to wear---I might even hem a few more tonight.

We cleaned out the indoor deck of our plants (stored away from the winter cold) and are getting the house ready. One of my really really really really REALLY great friends is coming into town and it makes me happy beyond words that she's staying for a few days again.

It's been a successful weekend.

So three people got laid off at the lab today. I managed to keep my job. Holy shit it was scary. But, I'm glad that they decided I'm an okay person to keep. My friend-that-i-bitch-constantly-about from work, she did not make the cut. I felt terrible, but again, I'm still happy I kept my job. I was always mad that she was a bit too snooty and "too good" for "intern work" when she and I had been interns not 7 months ago.

But, my boss explained why they were laid off. "To make sure everyone else had work for the next six months. Only six months."

Dear Congress: please to be passing that stimulus package so that we can have construction jobs that need their Section 106 compliance and we can be a happy lab again. Love, Becca and all her Coworkers

At 8:45am today, we got our replacement washer and dryer. Two weeks worth of laundry can now finally be washed. That is, after the rest of my family does theirs (boo). But yay on a new one! Not a front loader, but nice and stainless steel and cool. I can't wait to have clean clothes.

I've also been battling with Vista, freshly installed on my desktop. But I may have finally won, even though I can't really update anymore. Somehow the updates are fucking my computer over and cycle-rebooting. What a dick. But it's nice and fancy :D

Also been planning my Japan trip, which is gonna be awesome. We're gonna go visit Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Kat in Kobe! As well as Tokyo and all that jazz. But yay for historic sites AND awesome cemetery at Mount Koji. I have a goal to visit a cemetery in fancy places. It's fun.

"In Porter’s observations, the biggest surprise was the amount of mycophagy that Callimico engaged in. In the previous study done on Callimico (Pook 1981), there was no indication that they were feeding on anything other than fruiting trees. Pook noted that in the dry season they fed at a Cercopia tree, where primates were not seen eating the fruit, but the ants on the fruit. The emphasis was on insectivory in that study, but in Porter’s longer term study, she found that this was not the case. Insects were a large part of Callimico’s diet, about 30% (see Table 1), but fungi consumption was overall slightly higher (35%) than fruit and insect consumption. Porter did make percentages per dry and wet season, with Callimico eating the most fungi during the dry season.

The problem with fungi is that mycophagous animals have specialized digestive systems that break down the nutrients. Porter proposed that they have the possibility to ferment fungi in the cacum, assuming that Callimico is more related to marmosets with caeco-colic fermentation abilities. It is already known that this adaptation of marmosets is a way to digest plant exudates, with reduced small intestines and a large, compartmentalized cecum (Hanson 2006). With the addition to the third molar that Callimico has, Porter suggests that it helps in breaking down fungi to help in the digestion. Coincidentally, Hansen (2006) shows that chitin in an insect’s exoskeleton is also present in fungi’s hard cellular walls. If earlier assumptions said that the third shearing molar was used to process insect exoskeletons, then it is also easy to suggest that the molars help break down the fungi as well."

You know you wish you were writing my paper*.

*I know I do.

p.s. Pook = hilarious name

Please for the love of god, read signs.

When there is a sign posted in front of the elevator and on all three walls of the elevator, chances are that it's something you NEED TO FUCKING READ. NINE PEOPLE IS NOT SIX PEOPLE AND DON'T GET ALL BITCHY WHEN YOU ARE STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR FOR AN HOUR. Elevator bouncing up and down? While that is FUCKING SCARY AS SHIT, you had NINE PEOPLE ON THE ELEVATOR.

AND YES YOU DO NEED PANTHERCASH ON YOUR ID IN ORDER TO PRINT AND YOUR STUDENT EMAIL ID IS YOUR LOGIN.
